My family has established roots on Vancouver Island since the 70’s, primarily mid to north Island, and there is a reason we have never truly left. We love Vancouver Island and we love the thriving communites surrounding us.
The Valley is comprised of mountains, farmland and ocean. It is made up of three major communities – the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland, as well as the smaller communities of Royston, Union Bay, Fanny Bay, Black Creek and Merville. Each one of these communities offers its own unique qualities. Outdoor activities are in abundance in this region. Tucked below the Comox Glacier, Forbidden Plateau, and Mount Washington there are varied recreational opportunities such as, mountain biking, skiing, diving, hiking, camping, rock climbing, fishing, boating and beach combing, just a few of the reasons the Comox Valley is so attractive to outdoor enthusiasts. There are not many places you can ski, swim and mountain bike all the in the same day! The geographic layout of the Comox Valley and its fertile farmland contributes to an amazing culinary destination. As a Culinary School graduate, I enjoy the wineries, local café’s, breweries, farm to table restaurants and abundance all at my fingertips. The Comox Valley is also known for its community involvement and festivals throughout the year which helps any newcomer feel more connected to the community. This is why I love the Comox Valley and feel honoured to live here.
Only 30 minutes North of the City of Courtenay is the gateway to North Island. The city is situated along the coast. Similar to the Comox Valley, Campbell River offers an array of outdoor recreational opportunities with the addition of vast wilderness and numerous lakes in the immediate area. Known as the Salmon Capital of the world it offers unsurpassed boating and fishing adventures. It is a thriving city with a newly constructed seawall that is enjoyed by the entire community. It is also known for its community involvement and festivals throughout the year. Campbell River is where I grew up and holds a special place in my heart.
Whichever of these communities you choose to live in you can’t go wrong.
They are both gems in the jewel box of the North Island!
